About Us

As two special educators working mainly with children with autism, the creators met with many parents in and out of school and realized there was no existing source for parents and families to access local information. Many parents were overwhelmed: by a recent diagnosis, by a child with whom they could not connect, and by not knowing where to turn. The thought of researching resources in their area, especially via the Internet, was daunting. Furthermore, when a good resource was found, there was no way to spread the word efficiently.

In June of 2008, the creators were at an information session for another autism project. A parent in the audience asked if anyone knew a way that she could connect with other families to swap ideas and more importantly, to know she was not alone. Her question was the inspiration for myAUTISMcommunity.com.
